Computer Networking Technology

Prerequisite:      Completion of 10th grade, teacher approval, requires lifting and moving computers and monitors.                         Extensive reading and English communication skills are required. Students should have an interest in                         computer systems.

This two-credit course introduces students to the technical aspect of computers. It is designed for those students who are interested in a career in the computer industry. Emphasis will be on safety, hardware, software, troubleshooting, maintenance of computer peripherals, LAN, and operating systems. DOS, Windows, and Linux simulations and hands on methods will be used to prepare students for the work world. On-line learning through the CISCO/HP Networking will be used to transfer direct knowledge of the subject to students. Students will prepare to take the A+ Certification exam. This course may allow students to earn college credit from the Community College of Southern Nevada.

INTRANET/INTERNET MANAGEMENT I & II (CISCO Networking)

This two-credit course is designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technologies that will enable them to enter employment and/or further education and training in the computer-networking field. The course emphasizes LANs, WANs, topologies, OSI model cabling technology, routers, switching, IP addressing, and basic networking standards. The second semester of this course further emphasizes working with routers, switches, hubs, bridges, and other networking concepts. On-line learning through the CISCO Networking will be used to transfer direct knowledge of the subject to the students. Students will prepare to take the CCNA certification exam. This course may allow students to earn college credit from the Community College of Southern Nevada.
