COSMETOLOGY I & II Grades: 11, 12 Prerequisite: Good attendance is mandatory. Strong math, reading and science skills are necessary. Students must be willing to learn challenging tasks and be able to work with all types of people. Credits: 6 credits per year Lab Fee (Subject to change): $695 Junior, $475 Senior The world of cosmetology offers a diverse array of career choices for the licensed professional. Students enrolled in the SECTA Cosmetology Program can acquire the 1800 hours of clocked time and knowledge to take the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology Licensure Exam. Students completing the program are prepared to achieve personal and professional success. Upon receiving a license, the new professional can choose to focus on providing hair services, skin care, or nail services. Cosmetology is a lucrative profession that allows you to be an artist by working in a salon, spa, luxury hotel, in film, on a cruise ship, or as a stylist or makeup artist for bridal parties or fashion shoots as well as many other career choices. This program is a six period two-year course and is taught in a real work environment where students work on clients, manikins, and assigned partners to master the necessary skills for success in the workplace. The curriculum includes theory and clinical instruction in professional ethics, sanitation, human anatomy, facials, skin care, makeup application, manicuring, pedicures, acrylic nails, haircutting, haircoloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, and all phases of hair care and styling. Emphasis is also placed on job seeking/keeping skills, such as effective communication, customer service, teamwork, filling out a job application, building a resume, and interviewing techniques. Students are required to provide a copy of their social security card and government issued photo ID to the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology when enrolling as a junior (11th grade) in Cosmetology. The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology mandates that students be 18 years of age to sit for the written and practical licensure examination. Students are responsible to purchase their own uniform and nametag. A $200 lab fee deposit is due prior to May 1st to ensure a kit has been ordered for the new school year. Remaining lab fees are due in full upon entering the junior and senior year and no payment plans are available. . |
