Western Undergraduate Exchange
Tuition discount program in the western states.
WUE is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE, students in western states may enroll in many nonresident two-year and four-year college programs at a reduced tuition level: 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition. WUE tuition is considerably less than nonresident tuition. Some receiving states will now accept students from ALL WICHE STATES including the state of California. Students who enroll in participating Western Undergraduate Exchange programs will qualify for the WUE tuition rate. Please see each state's listing to see if this applies. More information at the WICHE website.

CSS Profile: What is it and why do I need it?
The CSS (College Scholarship Service) Profile is a financial form that some colleges/universities require in addition to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  While the FAFSA determines eligibility for federal funding, the CSS Profile determines eligibility for nonfederal institutional funds.  Parents and students may log on to https://profileonline.collegeboard.com to view the list of schools that require the CSS Profile.  If a college/university requires the CSS Profile, parents and students must complete a financial worksheet at the website before registering for the Profile application.  Customized questions will be asked based upon the colleges/universities selected.  The initial registration fee is $25, and then a fee of $16 will be charged for each college requiring the CSS Profile.  Students and parents are encouraged to complete the CSS Profile process now and to submit the FAFSA after January 1, 2012

Juniors: Check out the FAFSA4caster
This is the time of year when seniors begin to think about completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA enables qualified students and their parents to be eligible for student aid programs such as Pell Grants, Supplemental Grants (FSEOG), Loan Programs (such as FFEL and Perkins Loans), Institutional Aid Programs, and Work Study Programs. Now, juniors and their parents may begin exploring financial aid options with the FAFSA4caster. Families will receive an early estimate of eligibility for federal student aid. In addition, information entered into FAFSA4caster may then be transferred to the FAFSA on the web in the senior year, making the process of applying for aid much easier. Juniors interested in utilizing the FAFSA4caster may visit: http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov

Athletes and the NCAA Clearinghouse
Students who plan to attend an NCAA Division I or II institution and who wish to participate in intercollegiate athletics need to follow initial eligibility procedures established by the NCAA Clearinghouse.  Students must make their school counselor and their coach aware of their interest in collegiate athletics, as high school courses must be NCAA-approved.  Current high school juniors should plan to take the ACT or SAT by the end of their eleventh grade year.  When registering for the ACT/SAT, use code 9999 to report test scores to the NCAA Clearinghouse.  At the start of the senior year, students should register with the Clearinghouse online at https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common/.    At the time of registration, students should request that their high school transcript be sent to the Clearinghouse.  Following graduation, high school seniors must also request that their final high school transcript be sent to the Clearinghouse.  For more information, call the NCAA hotline at 1-877-262-1492 or visit the website
